"Neighborhoods": Irish Channel, New Orleans, LA
The Irish Channel Neighborhood is also known as "The Channel." Many Irish workers immigrated here to build the New Basin Canal, a waterway built to connect Lake Pontchartrain to then-developing New Orleans. The area was known as Lafayette before being annexed into New Orleans. Some notables are Parasoll's, the Irish St Patrick's parade, St. Alphonsus Church, St. Mary's Assumption Church, Father Francis Xavier Seelos' shrine.
