Consisting of more than 1,000 acres, City Park was built on the former Allard Plantation that once faced bayou St. John. It has many well-known structures and features such as Tad Gormley Stadium, Casino Building, Peristyle, Popps Bandstand, City Putt, Couterie Forest, Scout Island, sculpture gardens, Carousel and Amusement Park, Storyland, Botanical Gardens, Equest Farm, Dueling Oak, and many others. It is one of 10 largest urban parks in the country, and has the largest stand of mature live oaks in the world, some of which are over 800 years old. Also known for its many recreational activities and its Big Bass Fishing Rodeo.
